State policy for the development of electric power industry in the Soviet Far East, 1960s-1980s: programs and problems of their implementation

The article is devoted to the state policy for the development of the electric power industry in the Soviet Far East in the period from the 1960s to the end of the 1980s. The author focuses on the historical aspects of its formation, analyzes the developed programs and systemic problems that arose during their implementation, and also characterizes the structural changes in the industry and the results of the electrification of the region. The author concludes that, despite the initiatives taken, until the end of the Soviet era, the problems of energy supply in the region were not resolved, and the Far Eastern electric power industry remained a problematic, costly, and lagging industry, slowing down the socio-economic development of the region.
