State-Islamic relations in the 1930's: social evolution or succession? (on the materials of the Volga region)

The article examines the situation in the Volga region Ummah in 1935-1936, which was created around the choice of the Mufti of the Central Spiritual Administration of Muslims. The author analyses the successive module of interactions between the Soviet state and the clergy. She identifies the main issues which were considerable both for the Muslims of the Volga, and for public-Islamic relations in Russia.
