The mythological epic "the Lord of the rings" by George R.R. Tolkin presents one of the most important conflicts between good and evil. In this case the author considers the conflict between Good and Evil at different levels as well as the level of mythopoetic structuring the space of the novel. The article deals with the mythopoetic structure of the epic "Lord of the rings" by George. R.R. Tolkin and the vertical representation of space, which in mythology has the classic three-part structure, and in the epic is symbolically transformed into the system of spatial verticals (trees, towers, gorges, caves). The author defines these verticals as "gothic elements in the vertical representation of space" and analyses them from the perspective of their relation to the main conflict of the mythological epic - the confrontation between Good and Evil. There are "good", "bad" and "neutral" spaces, which manifest in the specificity of their interaction with the main characters of the epic...
