The article is devoted to the study of a topical literary problem – the graphic appearance of lyrical works. Analysis of research works devoted to the graphic appearance of poetry al-lows us to draw a conclusion about the significance of both graphic techniques and the features of the compositional arrangement of poetic texts on the page – graphic composition. The pur-pose of this study is to compare the graphic composition of A. S. Pushkin’s lyrical works with the creative heritage of his predecessors of the 17th–18th centuries. Based on the analysis of the presented material, it was established that the poet used different methods of graphic ar-rangement of verses: traditional, unifying, contrasting, offset, fractional and combined. As a result of their study, it was found that the indicator of traditional graphics in the poet’s poetry increased in comparison with the lyrics of the 17th–18th centuries due to the displace-ment of figured, chessboard and dissected verses, which we refer to as the “pictorial” type of graphics. We also drew attention to the fact that A. S. Pushkin preferred to experiment with fractional graphics, with the help of which he achieved not only the illusion of metric diversity, but also an expressive effect. The article also emphasizes that the identified patterns in the use of different types of graphic composition of verse create the prerequisites for the subsequent study of this phenomenon in literary criticism.
