The paper examined procedure of establishing of the Estonian community and their self-determination in the South of Russia. This period was related to the First World War and the Civil War in which the Estonian population was unwillingly involved. They experienced many severe trials of until the Soviet power had been finally established. During the Civil War the Estonians showed themselves brave people capable of forming their own opinion in that period of history.
