Civil War in Russia and the prose of the 1920s

The article is devoted to the comparison of the images of Russian revolution and Civil War in the prose of 1920s with the historical realities and doctrinal visions of the Bolsheviks. The author concludes that the latter often interpreted these events as revolution, class struggle and progress, while the writers saw them only as spontaneous riot, human animosity, reincarnation of pre-revolutionary antiquity. It explains well the abundance of religious images produced by the authors who were sometimes more left than the Bolsheviks themselves. Mutual “reconciliation” of both groups was the result of the sense of impossibility to return to the pre-revolutionary situation.
