The formation and reproduction of patriotic values is an important condition for overcoming internal contradictions at the national level and the basis for the development of citizenship. Consequently, there is a need to study the civil and patriotic orientations of modern youth. In this article the authors carry out the separation of the concepts of blind patriotism and constructive patriotism, consider their semantic content through the prism of the scientific discourse on patriotism. The article contains an analysis of the results of a sociological study of civil and patriotic orientations of the Tyumen youth. The empirical basis of the research is the data of a sociological survey of the population aged from 18 to 30 years. The survey was conducted in the city of Tyumen using the questionnaire method (N = 620). The sample was formed by spontaneous selection of respondents. In the course of analyzing sociological information, the authors identified three groups of young people: «patriots», «non-patriots» and «undecided». The results of the study show that civil-patriotic orientations of post-Soviet youth are more in keeping with blind patriotism. The proof of this fact is the prevalence of passive patriotic attitudes, a high degree of loyalty to the authorities, conformism, weakness of critical understanding of what is happening in the country, the predominance of militaristic interpretations of patriotism. In this regard, the authors believe that it is important to improve the system of patriotic education of young people for the development of constructive patriotism, the formation of civic responsibility and social activism.
