Hajj of Bashkortostan Muslims: history and current trends

Islam is the religion with the most number of followers in Bashkortostan. Muslim customs of pilgrimage to sacred lands have gone through a long period of formation and development. The history and the current state of the Bashkir Muslims hajj to Mecca and Medina are analyzed in the article on the basis of archival and ethnographic data. Special attention is given to the conditions and organization of hajj making, dynamics and social characteristics of present-day pilgrims.
