Hans Belting: art historian and theorist of art

The article is presented a summary biography of the famous German art historian Hans Belting. The review of his scientific works is given to the devoted art of the Middle Ages and contemporary history of art. On their example is shown how in contemporary western art criticism there is a process of revision of the main norms and principles of classical history of art. Relevance of this subject is caused by the increased interest to researching into the problem of crisis in the humanities.
