This article is devoted to the problem of interpretation in the insufficiently known poem by O.Wilde «Charmides». The author recommends regarding the early works of the writer in a context of the myth-centric motion of that epoch. Wilde forms up his works on the principle of multilevel semantic space, where the types of the characters or the items surrounding them gain symbolic-emblematic meaning. The meetings of the main character with the goddesses are regarded like the subject of the holy marriage of the dying and reviving god with the Great goddess, while the ritual marriage with Athena - as the search of the holy wisdom or "sophrosyne".
