32.3% of the population of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic uses unsatisfactory quality drinking water. A decrease in the quality of drinking water in 2021 compared to 2018 is observed by 7.5% in terms of sanitary and chemical indicators. According to microbiological indicators, over the same period, the share of water samples that did not meet the standards decreased by 8.7%, which indicates an improvement in quality. The main causes of pollution of water bodies include: the absence of sewage treatment facilities in rural areas, unsatisfactory operation of outdated and inappropriate sewage treatment facilities, wear of water supply networks.
