Short- and long-term results of surgical treatment of 106 breast cancer patients with lung lesions were studied. Histologically diagnosed lung metastasis was observed in 90 patients (84,9 %), primary lung cancer in 8 patients (7,5 %), solitary fibrous tumor of the pleura in 1 patient (0,9 %) and non-neoplastic disease in 7 patients (6,6 %). The 1-, 3- and 5-year survival rates were higher in patients who underwent surgery than in patients who received chemotherapy and hormone therapy (87,5 %, 46,4 % and 25,0 % versus 70,4 %, 18,5 % and 7,4 %, respectively). Analysis of long-term treatment results with respect to the number of metastases showed that the 5- and 10-year survival rates after surgical treatment of patients with solitary fibrous tumor were 31,6 % and 15,8 %, respectively. Adjuvant chemotherapy resulted in a significant increase in these rates up to 42,1 % and 18,8 %, respectively. The most important prognostic factors were: DFI value, status of thoracic lymph nodes, the number of metastases, treatment method and the type of surgery.
