Theft committed with social engineering: issues and features of forensic characteristics

In recent years, the Russian Federation has seen a steady trend towards an increase in crimes committed using information and telecommunications technologies, especially thefts committed by social engineering. Based on the analysis of investigative and judicial practice, as well as the analysis of scientific publications, the authors provide generalized information on some features of the forensic characteristics of this type of crime. The emphasis of the study is on the distinctive elements of the forensic characteristics of thefts carried out by means of social engineering. As a result, a conclusion was formulated about the importance of expert research based on the forensic characteristics of thefts carried out by the method of social engineering, and playing a key role in establishing the facts and evidence necessary to bring the guilty persons to justice for the purpose of successful investigation of such crimes.
