Economic activity of the Russian and Mordovian population of the Mordva Krai is considered in the article. Its influence on the development of the common law in the end of the XIX - the beginning of the XX centuries is emphasized. Centuries-long neighborhood of these peoples in the territory of Mordovia promoted the establishment of the common economic mode of life. Farming determining the way of life was the base for economic life of the rural population of Mordovia.
