Christological background of the ecclesiology of John Zizioulas, metropolitan of Pergamon

The author investigates the basic principles of the ecclesiology of John Zizioulas. He proposes a Trinitarian view of the Church. So it may be examined from two directions: the Christological and the pneumatological. In this article, the Christological aspect is considered. It is not because of its any greater importance, but simply due to chronological order. Zizioulas himself starts to develop his ecclesiological system with this aspect. Terefore the main positions of his doctrine of the Church are considered from the Christological point of view. Such an approach allows one to see both positive and negative aspects of the theology of John Zizioulas.
