The article focuses on the history of the concept 'artistic world of literature' in Russian philosophical criticism of the end of the19th-beginning of the 20th century and in Russian literary studies of the 1970s-1990s. The article also presents a method for analysing the 'artistic world' of a literary work (on the example of the analyses of the artistic 'world of childhood' in the works by K. Aksakov, F. Dostoevsky, Ch. Aytmatov). The world of children's lives - their essential being - is ontologically determined by a succession of events, following one another. In the context of these events we can find deeply hidden potential of existential perception of the world a child sees around himself. Reproducing in their works the inner world of a child, the writers reproduce personal, active and axiological nature of personal development.
