From the East and from the West...

The article gives a brief account of the lectures delivered at Novosibirsk State University by two outstanding scholars who are working in different spheres of Sinology. Professor Tang Chung (Deng Cong) from Chinese University of Hong Kong presents his achievements in prehistoric archaeology (with the special interest to ancient jades and bark clothes) and Professor T. A. Pang from Institute of Oriental manuscripts of RAS at St.-Petersburg submits the main directions in studying Manchu language and history.
