Ideological predecessors of Latin linguistics in the roman republic

This article describes a relatively poorly studied and little-known subject of antique history - the origin of linguistics in the Roman Republic. Basing upon the detailed analysis of the preserved fragments from the works of Roman authors of IV-III centuries BC, the author traces the main trends and areas of scientific interests of outstanding ideological predecessors of Latin linguistics and grammar. The research findings may be of potential interest to specialists in antiquity study.
