The article is a review of the first biography of one of the founders of Russian soil science, N. N. Strakhov. It was written by one of the prominent researchers of Russian religious thought - V. A. Fateev. The book under review covers almost all aspects of his thought and life: science, philosophy, journalism, literary fate, relationships with contemporaries. The author examines not only the friendly, but also the conflicting relations of Strakhov with his contemporaries (L. N. Tolstoy, F. M. Dostoevsky). The review contains a brief bibliography of the main works of V. A. Fateev, describes the state of modern scholarship about Strakhov. Attention is paid to the analysis of the main themes of the book and the author’s approach. The review provides a description of some chapters of the book, notes interesting, important places in this monograph. The article highlights the novelty, as well as the main advantages of Strakhov’s biography. The author points out those aspects of the book that make it possible to see in a new way the place of Strakhov in Russian religious philosophy. It is concluded that the publication of this book is a significant event in the Russian history of philosophy.
