This article is written on the basis of Japanese textbooks presented in a six-volume collection of materials [14], which was prepared for publication by Japanese researchers Akashi Yoji (明石 陽 至) and Miyawaki Hiroyuki (宮 脇 弘 幸). The article analyzes the content of the textbooks which were published for residents of the territories of the former British colonies in Southeast Asia occupied by the Japanese army in 1941-1945. The focus of our attention was the manifestations of linguistic and cultural imperialism, the methods of ideological treatment of the population, as well as the propaganda clichés of the Japanese military machine and the state reflected in the Japanese textbooks. Some ideological clichés of this propaganda later turned into the theses of the so-called theory of the Japanese, which spread in the second half of the 20th century (日本人 論).
