The author of the reviewed book analyzez Lermontov’s creative work from the viewpoint of Christian world understanding tracing evolution of his spiritual life and his experience of getting to know sacred foundations of being. At the same time, the author does not proceed from philosophical constructions and religious dogmas artificially attributed to his works but from the poet’s texts only. The poet’s spiritual evolution, confessionary and prophetic character of his works, from early poems to The Hero of Our Time, becomes the key to understanding Lermontov’s oeuvre. The monograph can be highly valued due to the author’s ability to clarify many conceptions of extreme contradictions in essential qualities of the great Russian poet’s personality and creative work.
