This article analyzes the image as a resource for improving the competitiveness of the territory. The ability to compete for preferences depends not only on the presence of image attributes, but on the methods of their positioning. The Republic of Mordovia has a number of advantages related to the ethno-national component, sports, educational and innovative potential. However, the lack of a well-developed image strategy that allows to accumulate all image elements reduces the effectiveness of the region's promotion.
