The sphere of recreation and tourism of the Krasnodar region is the flagship of sustainable development of the region’s territories. Activities related to tourism, such as retail trade, passenger transportation, provision of household services, etc., are also important. The article deals with the retail market of the Krasnodar region. The current state of the retail market is given, the market competitiveness is evaluated, the competitiveness factors are detailed, administrative barriers are evaluated, and so on. The choice of the retail market research is determined by its significance in ensuring the level of recreation for guests and the life of the region’s population. In our opinion, ensuring sustainable development of resort areas is possible with proper management of competitiveness in the market and with the use of state support measures.
