Population reproduction regime indicators

The paper considers methods of assessing objective indicators of demographic reproduction process intensity and the results of their use in determining necessary for transition from depopulation to sustainable population growth in Russia to increase fertility and reduce mortality. The net reproduction rate, marginal growth rate and standardized population growth rate are proposed as such indicators, the levels of which in each time period depend only on the observed values of age-specific fertility and mortality rates of female under 50 years of age (NKV, PTR) or the entire population (STR) and are not related to its current sex and age structure. The features of the content of these indicators are discussed and their values in some years in Russia for the period 2010-2020 are given. Necessary changes in the levels of female’s age-specific fertility are identified to ensure Russia’s transition to sustainable demographic reproduction regime. The possibilities of reducing the age-specific mortality rate as a measure contributing to the solution of this problem are discussed.
