The article is devoted to the analysis of materials from the newspaper “Chelyabinsky Rabochiy” during the first five-year plans (1928-1937) as part of the press’s reflection of events related to the industrialization of the city. It examines the role of the periodical press as part of propaganda and agitation policies among the masses. It is noted that from the late 1920s to the early 1930s, there was a growth in the number of newspapers in the USSR. According to the First Five-Year Plan for the development of the national economy of the USSR (1928), the Southern Urals, led by Chelyabinsk, was designated as the second coal and metallurgical base. Therefore, the ideas of industrial construction needed to be effectively communicated to the population through propaganda in local periodicals, with the largest being the newspaper “Chelyabinsky Rabochiy”. In the course of studying the materials published in the newspaper, the authors identified six thematic blocks, through which they were able to trace the indirect influence of the information published in the newspaper on the processes of industrialization in Chelyabinsk.
