Industrial heritage of the old industrial region: resources, practice and prospects of use

The available layer of the scientific research devoted to use, transformation and preservation of different objects that relate to industrial heritage, allows drawing a conclusion on a number of preferences which the industrial heritage can give to industrial regions, such as cultural and economic valorization of industrial zones and buildings, the solution of ecosystem and environmental problems, contribution of continuity of generations and to removal of social tension. One of the main directions of using the heritage objects is tourism and excursion activity now. The authors analyze the experience of using industrial heritage according to publications in scientific literature and open sources. Field researches of objects of industrial heritage in Tula region and also polling of experts and potential consumers of industrial tourism services are conducted. The general scientific analysis and synthesis, an unstructured interview, questionnaire, methods of descriptive statistics are the main methods of a research. It is shown that old industrial regions have rich cultural and historical heritage which allows creating tourist infrastructure complexes, multifunctional quarters and city spaces, to plan oneday and multiday routes. The research of preferences of tourist services potential consumers shows that programs which include not only industrial heritage sites, but the operating enterprises, reconstruction and the museums, are in the greatest demand. Decisions on the basis of technologies of virtual and augmented reality can make an alternative to reconstruction of industrial objects. Manmade landscapes attract consumers by relief, uncharacteristic for the area, and "an unusual look". The routes connected with metallurgy development in the region and also including stone quarries in Venyovsky district and a manmade landscape "Romantsevsky Mountains" of Uzlovsky district can become perspective programs of industrial tourism in Tula region.
