The educational and research aspects of the formation of the digital economy (DE) by using modern info-communication (ICT) and information (IT) technologies are considered. The role of ITs, which they perform when creating DE by introducing new ICTs into production technologies and expanding the concept of Industry 4.0 to Society 5.0, is noted. The problem of creating a national system of generation and implementation of innovative knowledge, without which the formation of DE in Russia is impossible, is discussed. Research results in the field of DE, which are conducted by the scientific school “Imitation simulation and management of complex processes in organizational-technical and socio-economic systems”, created by the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences on the basis of Applied Informatics Department of PSUTI, are presented. The importance of complex approach to implantation of new IT, ICT and production technologies is illustrated with specific examples. Educational and research projects in the field of DE, performed by undergraduate and graduate students of PSUTI in 2010-2018, are presented. Difficulties of transition to Society 5.0 in view of crisis threats and anti-Russian sanctions are noted. The necessity of lifting and democratization of knowledge in the interests of increasing the efficiency of corporate management during the formation of DE has been shown.
