This article explains why privacy is important and how this affects information technology. Computer security in itself is not a moral right or moral value, but it was argued that maintaining computer security can be morally necessary to protect interrelated rights and interests: the right to privacy, property rights, the rights to freedom, life and health of people and the national security. It was alleged that computer security could also work to undermine the rights. Ethical analysis of questions of confidentiality and safety in computer technology can help computer professionals and users to recognize and resolve moral dilemmas and give ethical rules and recommendations on the use of information technology.
