Recently, the dynamically changing picture of international relations has attracted the attention of many researchers involved in geopolitical problems. If some regions were in the center of attention at a certain period of historical development, the study of the Caucasus, with its unique geographic location, has not lost its relevance to this day. "From time immemorial, the Caucasus was considered as one of the most important geostrategic regions separating Eastern Europe from the Asian steppes, Orthodoxy from Islam, as a barrier between the Byzantine, Ottoman, Persian and Russian empires and the arena of the struggle of empires and ethnic conflicts" 1.
