Introduction. The intensification of the activity of the Russian Orthodox Church in the 1990s changed the position of the church in Russian society, making it an effective actor of public relations. The expansion of the Orthodox space has set the church a number of tasks, including reforming the church's management system. Materials and methods. The official websites of the Russian Orthodox Church were used as a source base by the authors of the annual diocesan reports of the Khanty-Mansi Metropolia; the documents of the Russian Orthodox Church; the official websites of the Russian Orthodox Church. The work uses general scientific and traditional methods for historical research: analysis, generalization, historical and genetic method. Research outcomes. The article attempts to consider the institutional changes in the structure of the Russian Orthodox Church in the north of Western Siberia in 1990-2020. Discussion and conclusions. The authors concluded that the separation of independent dioceses from the Tobolsk-Tyumen diocese occurred due to the large area and inaccessibility of the territory of the north of Western Siberia. A centralized management system, familiar to the ROC, was built within the canonical vertical of power in the church.
