A little more than 30 years have passed since the time when, in the conditions of increased ethnic mobility in the multinational Russian community of the early 1990s, dramatic changes were made in society and in the lives of peoples. The social processes in the life of peoples subjected to such a form of repression as forced resettlement were distinguished by particular activity. This has been subordinated since the mid-1930s. Their result was the forced eviction of another 19 ethnic communities and 42 groups of the population belonging to various nationalities on the territory of the USSR. They left their places of residence. During this period, the responsibility of humanitarian institutions especially increased, including the Institute of Russian History of the Russian Academy of Sciences, which made an invaluable contribution to correcting the mistakes of the past national policy, actively solving the problems of ensuring the implementation of measures for the rehabilitation of peoples, the restoration of historical justice. Methods. With the Russian historiography of the problem, a group of those, its first researchers, who stood at the origins of the development, had already clearly formed, as well as a group of researchers who worked in the subsequent time, for whom, of course, it was already relatively easy to go through the next stages of studying the problem, relying on open documents such as in the central archives, and in the subjects of the Russian Federation. In this regard, one can refer to the works of E.N. Chernolutskaya (Far East) [9], I. Pykhalov [7], A.E. Guryanov [3], M.N. Zemskova [4] and others. The named authors consider many aspects of this vast topic, which is complex in its focus. The process, the causes of events, their course, faces are described in detail. The predecessors used different methods of historical research. In this narrative, the author relied on such methods as historicism, historical-system method, chronological presentation, representative method, etc. Results. The study presented by the author is based mainly on the data contained in the letters of the heads of structural divisions of the administration of the President of the Russian Federation, the Government of the Russian Federation, as well as divisions of the deputy corps involved in the development of legal acts of the process of rehabilitation of citizens of the Soviet Union / Russia subjected to forced resettlement in 1930-1950-e years. And also in a particular case, the response documentation of the employees of the Institute of Russian History of the Russian Academy of Sciences is of particular value. Mutual information shows how productive the joint work was to solve the acute problems of this difficult era in the life of the state and its peoples. Also presented are the persons who participated in this correspondence, the provision by supporters of the Institute of Russian History of the Russian Academy of Sciences with the necessary documentation in terms of developing managerial decisions and eliminating the mistakes of the past, truthfully restoring the picture of the past, reflecting the history of Russia.
