The article is devoted to the problems connected with intellectual competencies’ formation in the professional training of a forensic expert in modern conditions of society digitalisation. The author analyses the various views of Russian criminologists on the prospects for the introduction of artificial intelligence technologies in forensic expertise. The article substantiates the need to make changes to the existing system of the specialists’ professional training aimed at the formation of a special intellectual competence - expert thinking, through the activation of its components such as systemic and critical thinking. It is proposed to use for these purposes the possibilities of such interactive teaching methods as discussion and training, based on obtaining new knowledge through understanding the acquired experience, i.e. through professional reflection. The author concludes that in order to introduce artificial intelligence technologies into expert practice, it is necessary to improve natural intelligence, which is based on expert thinking.
