Internet as an innovative phenomenon of the modern information society

The article deals with the basic development principles of the Internet that is a technological and organizational basis of the modern society. It is emphasized, that the Internet is an innovative powerful means of communication, and it covers almost all spheres of human activity and organizes a social structure of the information society in connection with the communication networks. The author analyzes correlation between expansion of the Internet and development of the new forms of social and political organizations, such as virtual community and electronic democracy.
