In this article, the author examines two main approaches to the theology of the great Alexandrian among Russian scholars of Origen of the 19th-21st centuries: the approach to Origen’s theology as a system that has existed since the beginning of the study of Origen’s heritage and the approach to Origen’s teaching as theology in research, which is reflected in the modern era. The article examines the interpretations of Origen’s theological heritage in Russian historiography on the basis of Russian scholarly publications, starting from the second half of the 19th century, from the birth of patristics as a scholarly field in Russia, to the present, dividing the period under consideration into three stages: the Synodal period, theology in the Russian diaspora, and modern period. The presented study identifies the differences between Russian research approaches to Origen’s theology and approaches in foreign historiography. The author of this article offers an explanation of criticism of Origen’s theology in Russian historiography, as well as an explanation of how much the change in the approaches of Origen scholars that took place in the 20th century in European historiography influenced the Russian historiography of Origen’s theology.
