Some works of culture and art found on the territory of Ancient Greece allow specialists in the field of physical culture and sports not only to better understand the features of ancient sports competitions, but also to evaluate the technique of athletes participating in the Ancient Olympic Games. In this paper, the author makes an attempt to evaluate the technique of ancient discus throwers by considering a copy of the statue "Discobolus" of the ancient Greek sculptor of Myron and the painting of the ancient Greek vase painting. Unlike other ancient sports, the movement technique of the ancient Greek discus throwers was significantly different in structure from the modern one. At the same time, the paradox lies in the fact that the modern throwing technique was just invented when considering the ancient statue of the Discobolus. The ancient Greeks were well versed in the kinematic and biomechanical features of human movements, but at the same time they did not sufficiently understand the aerodynamic characteristics of the movement of objects, which shown itself in a discus throwing from below point and the flight of a projectile in a vertical plane, in which the lift force that keeps it in the air will not act on the discus.
