In the studies that we have conducted previously, we have studied approaches to the study of interviews and conversations that researchers have identified. We have identified a strategic approach based on common principles, attitudes and goals of communication, and algorithmic approach, which is based on the following rules, algorithms. Objectives: 1) examine the features of application of algorithmic and strategic approaches, the differences in the description of the interview in scientific and educational literature, which can be found using each approach; 2) to determine which approach is most interesting for our further studies; 3) to analyze how researchers use the approach in their research. Results: we use both scientific and educational literature, because the essence of an algorithmic approach is manifested in the textbooks better. We use textbooks as a source of material for research and is the result of a certain way of describing an interview. The Main differences in the description of the interview as part of the strategic and algorithmic approaches is the position and role of the communicants, the study of the understanding between the journalist and his interviewee, as well as installation on a confrontational or a converged communication. Research in the framework of the strategic approach is not sufficient. However, researchers who use the strategic approach, study in detail the topical issues that were previously poorly understood. Conclusion: We believe that a strategic approach is more promising for our further studies, because this approach is less developed, but it can eliminate the weaknesses that are inherent in algorithmic approach. First, the scientists who study strategies, consider the dialogue as an interaction, take into account the active role of the interlocutor in the dialogue. Second, researchers of different fields of science often point to the need of a strategic approach to the development of comprehension skills. Thirdly, researchers who belong to the «strategic» approach, consider the installation of interlocutors to communicate and talk about the need for harmonious and respectful relationships in which participants strive to create a comfortable situation and mutually enrich each other knowledge, to understand each other. In addition, the strategic approach meets the priorities of the modern communicative space in which communicative competence and convergent mode of consciousness is an important theoretical and practical task. It is important that the representatives of the «strategic» approach does not focus on a particular replica when considering the genre of the interview. They operate different categories (intention, attitudes, etc.) and propose the overall direction of the interview instead of specific moves and replicas. The intention is one of the main factors determining the type of strategy and the main criterion for defining the genre in many linguistic studies (N. D. Arutyunov, E. A. Zemskov, O. S. Issers; M. Yu. Fedosyuk; T. V. Shmeleva etc.), including theory on the basics of journalism (L. E. Kroichik, G. V. Lazutina, S. C. Raspopov, A. A. tertychnyy etc.). Therefore, the strategy is the most optimal concept for the study of the genre.
