The introduction of weigela (Weigela thunb.) on the European north-east Russia

The paper presents the results of the introduction of three species and one hybrid form of plants of the genus Weigela in the Botanical garden of the Institute of biology Komi scienсе center. It is established that due to some warming of the climate in the Republic of Komi, weigelas in the North can grow and develop, to be quite high winter hardiness, can bloom profusely and form high-quality seeds. Morphological description of the types and forms of the weigela is given. The dates of the onset of the main phenological phases of development in plants are shown, their winter hardiness is estimated. There is a regular freezing of annual shoots of weigelas and perennial shoots in more severe winters. After freezing of shoots the plants grow quickly and within two to three seasons to restore the crown. Weigela middendorffiana and Weigela hybrida are distinguished with increased winter hardiness, which allows to recommend them for use in landscaping in the southern and central regions of the Republic. Some recommendations on collecting seeds from plants and seed reproduction are given. It is established that when growing Weigela hybrida from the seeds of local harvest, the first flowering of individual plants occurs in the fifth year.
