Within the framework of the political analysis of Islamism in the context of intercivilizational interaction, the author examines the conceptual apparatus, the relation of such terms as 'Islam’, 'political Islam’, 'Islamism’, 'Islamic fundamentalism’, 'Islamic extremism’, 'Islamic terrorism’. Since its inception, Islam has served as the ideological and political foundation for the development of the state, economy, and society. In the author's perspective, the term 'Islamism’ is the most useful in studying Islamic political ideology since it is presented not only as an ideology but also as a complex phenomenon that includes three constituent elements of the same system, namely religious, ideological and political components. With a certain organization and interaction of such categories as religion and politics, a totally new ideology of radical political Islam is being formed. Political Islam, according to the author, is not a struggle with some individual values and manifestations in the life of society and the state, but today in a modern world a complex, multifaceted interaction of civilizations is taking place in which Islamism plays one of the prominent roles.
