The article deals with Icelandic cultural concept influence on the works of William Morris, a poet, writer, painter, designer and art theorist of Victorian England. In William Morris's meta-text the Icelandic concept is analysed in terms of different discourses (poetic, prosaic, publicistic, picturesque-and-decorative etc.). Special attention is given to such concepts as «Icelandic» landscape (topographical and picturesque) and «Icelandic» archaism (late romances language). In the article kennings and heity are considered as decorative outline of Morris's works; periphrases of anthroponyms and toponyms, stylistically similar to the Icelandic poetic tradition, are considered in the painting-by-word context.
