Using hybrid sunflower varieties as a way to improve the resource base for their production (based on the Saratov region materials)

A SWOT analysis of sunflower production in the Saratov Region was conducted. The dynamics of average selling prices for sunflower oilseeds (in comparison with grain and legume crops) among agricultural producers in the Saratov Region were analyzed. It was revealed that from 2019 to 2023, the price of grain and legumes increased by 109%, while the price of sunflower oilseeds increased by 139%. In the Saratov Region, the physical production volume of sunflower oilseeds obtained from hybrid varieties increased from 284.3 to 400.7 thousand centners from 2019 to 2023. This is primarily due to a significant increase in the average selling price from 1,811.2 to 6,769.8 rubles per 1 centner over the study period. The key economic indicators for the production of varietal and hybrid sunflowers in the Saratov Region are presented in more detail and compared. It is concluded that the production and sale of hybrid sunflower varieties demonstrates a higher gross profitability (72 %) compared to conventional varieties (65 %). A number of recommendations are provided for agricultural producers planning to produce hybrid sunflower oilseeds.
