In our work, we want to show that it is possible to expand the tools of psychological counseling with the help of mediation techniques. Mediation practice places high demands on a specialist. He must adhere to the principles of mediation and be able to separate the problem from the personality of the other party and from his own personality. At the same time, this makes it possible to formulate an agenda for further negotiations between the parties as soon as possible, which allows them to communicate further and resolve issues related to the upbringing of their children. In this paper, we will justify the use of mediation techniques in psychological counseling and show the advantage of this technology in working with married couples in a situation of divorce. The relevance of our work is to increase the positive results of psychological counseling for families in a divorce situation. The use of mediation principles and tools allows for the most effective psychological counseling of families in a situation of non-normative crisis. Using mediation tools, we do not consult one family member, but work with a couple (depending on the case, with progenitors and children), which has the most effective effect on the outcome of negotiations between spouses (ex-spouses). Based on the results of the research, a new program has been developed to introduce mediation tools and principles into the process of psychological counseling for families in a divorce situation. When using our program as part of psychological counseling, the process of agreement between spouses becomes more effective.
