This paper examines the characteristics of China's participation in the development of Arctic routes. The history and test results of China's commercial shipping in the Arctic sea routes in recent years, as well as the prospects for participation in their use are analyzed. Due to the intense melting of sea ice in the Arctic Ocean, caused by global warming, interest in Arctic shipping is increasing. China is the second-largest economic power in the world, and the use of the Arctic routes will help it to further develop energy import channels, reduce the cost of maritime transportation, improve the safety of navigation. Participation in the improved construction and operation of the Arctic routes will help China to improve its international political status and turn China into a great maritime power. In addition, these Arctic routes can become an important international transport channel for China. However, when developing the water routes, the State faces challenges. Therefore, a correct understanding of the restrictions associated with navigability in the Arctic, promoting reasonable ways to respond will fully implement the strategic value of the Arctic routes, not only in the interests of China.
