The paper discusses the relevance of the test crops of forest tree species, as well as the results of tests for genetic evaluation of plus trees of Scotch pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) on seed progeny in test cultures growing under the taiga zone of Karelia. Forest selection based on genetic diversity of populations of woody plants, allows selecting the most valuable genotypes. Therefore, genetic and ecological research of specific populations is very significant. As a result of statistical processing of all available data have been made the average, minimum and maximum values for all studied traits of plus trees, also we have calculated general combining ability. The study found the more promising plus trees, they may be separated into elite trees and recommended to create a second generation seed orchards.
