The paper considers the study results of energy indicators in different sections of power supply systems with a well-known mechanical voltage regulator of the switching type without excitation and a new voltage regulator of the two-band reactor-thyristor controlled voltage regulator with a decrease in the supply voltage and an increase in the active-inductive load current. The studies were conducted in the MATLAB environment on the developed block-modular simulation model of a transformer substation of an electric power supply system with a capacity of 1 MV∙A with a voltage of 6/0.4 kV with an active-inductive nature of the load with a phase shift angle of the load current φ = 45 degrees. The study results of energy indicators in different sections of the power supply system prove that the well-known voltage regulator does not have the ability to maintain the voltage level of consumers at a given value, which leads not only to a comprehensive decrease in the energy performance of the electrical installation, but also to a deterioration in the quality of products and a reduction in the service life of electrical equipment. The obtained results of numerical experiments with the proposed dual-band reactor-thyristor controlled voltage regulator confirm that the proposed device, due to the expansion of its functionality, despite external and internal changes in electrical parameters, increases energy performance in all sections of the power supply system, which results in the elimination of the problems of additional power losses among other things. The paper also gives an integral characteristic of voltage stabilization for consumers with an existing and proposed voltage regulator. The most appropriate application area of the proposed dual-band reactor-thyristor controlled voltage regulator is transformer substations with a voltage of 35/(6, 10)/0.4 kV, which requires smooth and accurate voltage regulation with high technical and economic indicators.
