Mobility of the first metatarsal bone in patients with static deformities of the anterior foot usually increases with time. There is still no consensus on the pathogenetic role of the first metatarsal bone hypermobility. The majority of authors believe that this hypermobility is an indication for metatarsocuneiform joint arthrodesis. However, other studies have demonstrated high efficacy of diaphyseal osteotomy in these patients. In this prospective study, we evaluated mobility of the first metatarsal bone in 132 patients with static deformities of the anterior foot. We found that diaphyseal scarf osteotomy had a positive effect on the mobility of the first metatarsal bone.
