The research analyzes the occupational distribution of employees by sociodemographic groups at the regional level. The relevance of the study derives from the fact that an investigation of the intraregional characteristics of employment differentiation makes it possible to obtain more detailed information on the determinants of occupational segregation. The differences in the occupational distribution are analyzed with the help of the Duncan dissimilarity index. The study findings indicate that regions differ substantially in the presence and level of segregation of international migrant workers. The authors suggest a hypothesis that the segregation is caused by the economic factors associated with higher productivity of mono-ethnic groups of employees. To test the hypothesis, the researchers propose an econometric model based on the modified Mincer wage equation. The model evaluation results demonstrate that both economic factors and ethnic discrimination of employees exert an influence over segregation.
