This paper describes a method to create long-period fiber gratings (LPFG) by fiber modification in an electric arc. The temperature dependence of transmission spectrum of an LPFG written in SMF-28 fiber is investigated. It is shown that these fiber structures could be used as fiber temperature sensors.
