On the territory of Tyumen region there is the so-called Tobolsk Zabolotye, where practically only Tatars live. The quality of their life is strongly influenced by natural and geographical conditions. The article examines published sources and identified archival documents (including those being introduced into scientific circulation for the first time) on the social history of the population of this region. The number, gender and age composition, educational level, and family structure of Zabolotnie Tatars are examined on the example of the village of Yangutum. From 1858 to 1935 there was an increase in the number of inhabitants of the region. There were slightly more men than women. The majority of residents were adults between the ages of 16 and 59. In the first third of the XX century, the birth rate rose sharply. The literacy rate of the population was extremely low. Families were small and consisted of 4-5 people. Living together as married couples with other relatives, custody of the elderly, minor siblings, and raising other people's children were commonplace. Cases of bigamy were identified. There was often a significant difference in the age of the spouses.
