The article is devoted to the analysis of the sources of perception of Great Britain in Russia of the 1850s-1860s. Among the main sources, the authors distinguish established ideas and stereotypes, works of fiction, scientific literature and publicism, travel diaries, publications in the periodical press. The authors conclude that despite the diversity and richness of the material these sources did not always have sufficient objectivity. This sometimes left an imprint of bias on the image of Britain, formed in the public opinion of Russia.
