The research discusses the historical background to the phenomenon of liberalism in the ideological context of the concept of happiness. Previous political studies have investigated the basic ideas of liberalism such as freedom, individual rights, equality, and parliament rather than the above-mentioned value component. Nevertheless, the research on happiness is of high scientific relevance because it has had a huge impact on the establishment of the complex phenomenon of liberalism. Having compared American and European approaches to dealing with the concept of happiness, the author traced the dynamic development of liberalism in Russia in the early 19th century which penetrated into the country from Europe and America. In the author’s opinion, there is a need to rethink the origins of liberalism due to the fact that the world tries to find new ideological and geopolitical ideas and support for development.
